Community Outreach

Community Outreach by Our Optometrist in Jasper & Evansville, IN

At Vision Development Center, part of our mission is to educate the public on the existence of vision therapy as treatment for binocular vision disorders that affect learning and behavior.  Vision problems of this nature are not typically treated by glasses and contacts alone.  At Vision Development Center, we guide vision beyond 20/20.

Presentations

Dr. Bauernfiend provides free presentations for local schools, clubs, organizations, and medical offices. She can be available to speak for a couple of hours or thirty minutes.  Common topics include but are not limited to attention deficit disorder, dyslexia, reading difficulties and behavior issues.

Eye Movement Screenings

Our doctor provides free screenings for many local schools.  Dr. Bauernfiend observes tracking and eye teaming skills at reading distance.  This is not a part of the standard vision screening that includes every student and requires an eye exam for those who did not pass.  Our service is voluntary and is meant to inform parents of a potential vision disorder that gets in the way of learning and where further testing and treatment can be found.  Additionally, Dr. Bauernfiend can lead a teacher in-service to discuss the observable signs of visual disorders that affect a students academic performance.

If you are interested in scheduling a screening or presentation please call our office at 812-482-1411.
